The bestselling classic and basis for the #1 smash hit movie starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Wicked, here paired for the first time with the other three books in the Wicked Years series (Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men, and Out of Oz) in a stunning box set featuring a gorgeous design and new covers for all four trade paperbacks.
Gregory Maguire's groundbreaking New York Times bestselling series redefined the land of Oz, its inhabitants, its Wizard, and the Emerald City, viewing the world created by L. Frank Baum through a darker and greener lens.
Wicked. The first novel in the series, basis of the smash hit musical, explores a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek the comfort of middle-class stability, and the Tin Man becomes a victim of domestic violence. And then there is the little green-skinned girl named Elphaba, who will grow up to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West--a smart, prickly, and misunderstood creature who challenges all our preconceived notions about the nature of good and evil.
Son of a Witch. A decade after the Witch has melted away, her son, a young man called Liir, is discovered bruised, comatose, and left for dead in a gully. Shattered in spirit as well as in form, he is tended by the mysterious Candle, a foundling in her own right, until failed campaigns of his childhood bear late, unexpected fruit.
A Lion Among Men. While civil war looms in Oz, the Cowardly Lion, an enigmatic figure named Brrr, arrives in search of information about Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West.
Out of Oz. The marvelous land of Oz is knotted with social unrest: The Emerald City is mounting an invasion of Munchkinland, Glinda is under house arrest, and the Cowardly Lion is on the run from the law. And look who's knocking at the door. It's none other than Dorothy. Yes, that Dorothy. Amid all this chaos, Elphaba's granddaughter, the tiny green baby born at the close of Son of a Witch, has come of age. Now, Rain will take up her broom in an Oz wracked by war.

I saw the theater production of Wicked but never read the book. This is a great buy because you get all the book related to the series!
Satisfied
These books are so hard to read. There are many made up words or words that are so old no one would use them in the modern world so I kept having to look things up to understand what I was even reading. The first book is also very long. I had to switch to the audiobook because I just lacked any desire to pick this up. I love the wicked play and the movie so I bought this as a way to get a peak into the sequel only to find that literally nothing is the same.I have only read 2 out of the 4 books so far and I prefer the second one to the first though the jumping timelines was hard to follow when listening to the audio version. I’m not sure if it’s easier to follow in the book because I never even opened it so hopefully there is like an indent or an italics to keep it straight. These books are very time consuming so I’m holding off for a bit to read the next two. I found the first two books on Libby to listen to the audio but the last two aren’t available so I’m going to have to read them the old fashion way. Hopefully it goes better than the first book because after 150 pages I gave up. It’s really hard to read these with my aphantasia because I lack the ability to visualize what is happening so magic books are hard for me. This was my first time trying. Normally I read mystery’s which are more straight forward.——-As for the physical product. I purchased this used and it was still in the wrapper. It has had a little bit of damage on the edge probably from shipping where the black came off the cardboard box but no damage to the books. No highlighting or writing. They look new. I’d give the seller and the physical product a 5 but the 1 star is because the writing/story sucks. Not a fan of this author.
I love this story and I’m so excited I was able to find it cheaper here than in store.
