Will There Be Wine?

Austen Keller was living her dream. She landed a career-defining job which moved her and her husband to Paris. Shortly thereafter, she was divorced. This wasn't the plan. Yet there she was-pushing 40 and starting over.
A decade after she'd last been single, Austen enters the dating scene playing by a new set of rules in a different language, culture, and lingerie standards. She experiences every type of miserable first date imaginable and lives to tell the tales of Pierre the Mansplainer, Simon the Snoozer, Emile the Over-Sharer, Guillaume of the Gym Shorts, and many more. On most dates, she struggles to get past one glass of Bordeaux without wanting to bolt. Even worse, no one chases after her when she runs. It doesn't take long for her to realize that whoever said French men were romantic deserves a swift kick in the pants.
A rewarding and high-powered career.
Fabulous female friendships.
True love.
Austen continues to ask herself: Is "having it all" too much to ask?
A genuine and tragically hilarious novel about an ex-pat woman's journey of self-discovery through a string of disastrous dates, relationships forged in a deep cultural divide, world travels, and wine. A lot of wine.

the book has really good writing but went downhill about halfway through when infedility started playing part. she’s also supposed to be a blogger but i felt it wasn’t really a big part in the book making it a bit unnecessary
“In Paris, love was oxygen, and Austen was gasping for breath.”Officially divorced from her failed marriage, Austen was ready to start her new single life in the City of Love. (sigh) Oh great.Soon, she becomes involved with a charming Frenchman. The narrative was nice and easy. Although it was quirky, it wasn’t as humorous as I thought it would be. The overall read, at times, felt a little too long and slow. I wished this would’ve moved a lot quicker. Basically, this was about a woman finding her groove again in Paris. It was a lot milder than I thought it would be, but it was fairly nice.
Easy read! Most of the story was like a narration which was a little weird, but I enjoyed the book overall.
Enjoyable, entertaining, and perfect for a Francophile who misses those yummy youthful days in Paris!
Clever title, which proved to be quite appropriate for the entire book! I'm not a rom-com fan, but this was interesting because I have a good friend who is in a very similar situation as Austen, the main character of this book. She, too, is in France, working, a divorcee, and looking for love. (Fortunately, I think she might have found him)! So, it piqued my interest. Austen had great friends who supported her with every move she made in her life. They were all perfect! And that was a bit of my concern. Even though they all had a few minor problems, they were perfect. Money, successful careers, beauty, designer clothes, the ability to travel to exotic places ..... perfect! There wasn't a complete "realness" to the characters for me. I felt like it was somewhat superficial and even with Austen, I never felt a deep connection to her. She had it all, except for the love of her life. I have experienced online dating....really bad experiences for me. I appreciated the blog that Austen created for her experiences. Probably my favorite part of the novel. Clever and funny. Without giving anything away, the ending was .... again...perfect! I would love to live that perfect life! Then again, I assume that's what makes it a successful rom-com read. Congratulations to Whitney Cubbison for her first novel. I know it's not her last.Note: Our book club had the wonderful pleasure of an online meet & greet with Whitney. I learned a lot more about the book and the author! I'm a fan for sure! Whitney Cubbison is wonderful and easy to talk to. I'm looking forward to the sequel to this novel and perhaps meeting Whitney in person when I visit my friend in France.
