All bets are off when a single-minded photographer and a professional hockey player are forced to spend a week together on his sister's Christmas tree farm, perfect for fans of Jenny Holiday and Maggie Knox.
Maisie Smart doesn't look back. Not on the choice she made to be a photographer, and not on the one-night stand she had six months ago. But sleeping with a professional hockey player who bolted the morning after is a whole new level of embarrassing. Now she's about to spend the week at Tickle Tree Farms with her family this Christmas--and then the universe throws a Grinch in her festive plans.
Nick King is a mess. After a significant injury benches him, he has more time to dwell on his anxieties and the one-night stand he can't get out of his head. With the holidays around the corner, he figures visiting his sister and nephew at their Christmas tree farm will be a good way to sort himself out. That's impossible when he learns Maisie is there, still beautiful and justifiably angry about the way he left. But Christmas is the time for second chances, and the forced proximity may help Nick and Maisie unwrap feelings neither of them can walk away from twice.

The story is engaging from start to finish and has that perfect Hallmark-movie warmth.A joyful read to jump-start your holiday spirit!
This is the best book I’ve read in quite a while. The Christmas setting really set the tone for the story through the first half of the book. And so glad the story didn’t end there. So often I wish books would be longer so the story didn’t end. I am now on a mission to track down more of Sophie Sullivan’s books!!

Q: What do you get when a lawyer, a veterinarian, a photographer, a professional hockey player and a Christmas tree farm owner walk into a story plot?A: One of the cutest holiday books you will read this season!Right off the bat I would like to mention how I loved this cast of characters from the get go! While it took me a minute to figure out how everyone was related or knew each other, I loved all the relationships they had with each other. Set on an idealistic Christmas tree farm on the week leading up to Christmas, this book was the perfect snow cozy read for the holiday. After meeting at a mutual friend's wedding, Maisie, a successful photographer, and Nick, a professional hockey player, spend the perfect night together. She thought they really had a connection but he left the next day and never called her. After 6 months of no contact, she is resolved to get over it but is shocked when she shows up to her family Christmas and sees Nick, who is the brother of the Christmas tree farm owner. Now they are stuck together for a week with lingering tension from their night together and with Nick trying to prove to her they deserve a second chance.Nick is a man who knows what he wants and he wants Maisie. He made a mistake by leaving her without an explanation but vows to correct the mistake and take back what he lost. Gah! I love when a MMC can admit he’s wrong and just owns it! He only has one week to make this happen and he pulls out all the stops (and he has a little help from his cute nephew)While she still held a slight grudge I liked how she didn’t hold it over his head. She allowed him to show her that he made a mistake and was open to trying things again, especially with how much they were drawn to each other. The topic of mental health in athletes was handled very tactfully and I liked how she silently supported him when he was having a panic episode but also pushed him to speak out about it and not hide away. She was just there for him. Her actions spoke volumes and I like when characters and scenes can just speak to me through the book without any overly wordy dialogue. This book was broken into 2 parts. Part one is on the christmas tree farm and coming back to each other to start their second chance. Part two is back in Seattle, where they are trying to find out how they can make it work long term.Nick has to conquer his doubts and come to face the realization that maybe hockey is coming to an end for him and she has to face the complicated relationship she has with her parents, specifically her mother. While I adored this book, I wish we could have stayed on the Christmas tree farm a little longer and been around those characters more. I feel like most of the issues and barriers could have been addressed there and then slowly wrapped up in a few chapters after Christmas. I think I just really missed the dynamic of the families and their interactions.
