Being undead sucks. Literally.
Just ask C. Thomas Flood. Waking up after a fantastic night unlike anything he's ever experienced, he discovers that his girlfriend, Jody, is a vampire. And surprise! Now he's one, too. For some couples, the whole biting-and-blood thing would have been a deal breaker. But Tommy and Jody are in love, and they vow to work through their issues.
But word has it that the vampire who initially nibbled on Jody wasn't supposed to be recruiting. Even worse, Tommy's erstwhile turkey-bowling pals are out to get him, at the urging of a blue-dyed Las Vegas call girl named (duh) Blue.
And that really sucks.

Another laugh as I hitch a ride on the marvelous mind of Christopher Moore. This series is a hoot! Unfolds like you're watching it on the big screen. Hilarious characters that just keep you entertained. Nothing too serious that a blood bag can't fix. If you enjoy vampires and their antics this book is for youπ
Book came quickly and arrived in new condition
This is a sequel to BLOOD SUCKING FIENDS.It's a good light comic novel and is in spots very funny. We're used to two types of vampires. The less common of the two is the hideous revenant ala Max Schreck in Nosferatu or The Salems Lot Vampires.More often we confront romantic aristocrats like Dracula or Lestat.(Klaus Kinski's Nosferatu is a hybrid of the two). Here the two main vampire characters -Jody and Tommy don't come close to fitting either of those stereotypes. The book repeatedly stresses that Jody is beautiful (think Amy Adams or Bella Thorne). Her beauty actually has a purpose in the novel. In one very interesting passage, she thinks about being afraid of walking around in the city before she became a vampire. Now she fears nothing and deliberately dresses in a manner she knows will draw male attention. If someone gets inappropriate, she can just kill him.Tommy is a 19 year old from Indiana and is so not your idea of a vampire ,it's funny.Into the mix enters a 16 year old who calls herself Abby Normal.Abby is a goth Girl with a head stuffed with kitschy fantasies of "darkness".She meets the vampires and becomes their minion. It's a dream come true.Abby can't imagine- at first- that the vampires are basically American young people who've only been vampires for a short time.So she decides that Jody is an ancient aristocrat who she calls Countess and Tommy she calls ,Lord Flood. She imagines being inducted into a coven and thinks she will be intiated into dark secrets, which isn't about to happen at least with her vampires. The gap between the reality and the fantasy here generates a good deal of humor. Much of the book is Abby's diary and she does come up with some comments that are hilarious. One I'd share but for the fact it's to put it mildly "blue".So if your in a mood for vampire comedy, read BLOOD SUCKING FIENDS and move on to this.
I'm not someone that reads vampire novels, however, I recently started reading Christopher Moore books (this was my 4th in the past month) and I was very happy that I chose to read this book. It is my second favorite of his books so far (surpassed only by A Dirty Job) I was mistaken and thought this was the first of the vampire books he wrote, but apparently Blood Sucking Friends came first.... in worries though as he does a good job recaping the things you need to know to understand the book. As with all his books the humor is VERY juvenile... but I think anyone that enjoys Moore already knows what to expect. His books are ridiculous fantasy told in a way that makes you laugh out loud. I agree with some of the other critics of this book that the ending was a little weak, however, it is a comedy... not an action book so I feel that as long as it is humorous (and it is) the weak ending is still acceptable.Up next on my Christopher Moore reading list is Lamb....I have high expectations.
Moore's vampires sparkle in the sun - and then burst into flame! But other than the sun, there doesn't seem to be much truth to the vampire myths and legends - holy items, garlic, running water - none of these phase vampire Jody, and once she turns C. Thomas (Tommy) Flood, he is likewise mostly invulnerable. This book picks up not too long after the previous book
Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story
ends, with Tommy expressing his displeasure over being turned into a vampire ("You suck!"). Now he and Jody are on the run from the Emperor of San Francisco, the Animals (night stockers from Safeway, with whom Tommy used to be friends) and the ancient vampire Elijah, who effects an escape from his bronze shell. On the other hand, Tommy and Jody have the assistance of Abby Normal, who recognized Tommy for what he was when they met in a Walgreens and is now Tommy and Jody's devoted minion.Abby Normal's journal entries make up part of the narrative and seeing things from the point of view of a 16-year-old fangirl is hilarious! This is the spanning book between
Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story
and
Bite Me: A Love Story
, so if you want to get the whole story be sure not to miss this one! A must-have for anyone who enjoys a silly vampire story.
