"Every bit as smart, sensitive, funny, and genuine as her phenomenally popular novels,"* a dazzling collection from the New York Times bestselling author of Prep, American Wife, and Eligible
"I really loved all the characters in this book. They're so complex and interesting, and in every story, you'll find them going through these pivotal moments in their lives."--Reese Witherspoon (Reese's Book Club Pick)
NAMED ONE OF THE TEN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY PEOPLE AND USA TODAY AND ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Washington Post - NPR - Financial Times - San Francisco Chronicle - New York Public Library - Refinery29
A suburban mother of two fantasizes about the downfall of an old friend whose wholesome lifestyle empire may or may not be built on a lie. A high-powered lawyer honeymooning with her husband is caught off guard by the appearance of the girl who tormented her in high school. A shy Ivy League student learns the truth about a classmate's seemingly enviable life.
Curtis Sittenfeld has established a reputation as a sharp chronicler of the modern age who humanizes her subjects even as she skewers them. Now, with this first collection of short fiction, her "astonishing gift for creating characters that take up residence in readers' heads" (The Washington Post) is showcased like never before. Throughout the ten stories in You Think It, I'll Say It, Sittenfeld upends assumptions about class, relationships, and gender roles in a nation that feels both adrift and viscerally divided.
With moving insight and uncanny precision, Curtis Sittenfeld pinpoints the questionable decisions, missed connections, and sometimes extraordinary coincidences that make up a life. Indeed, she writes what we're all thinking--if only we could express it with the wit of a master satirist, the storytelling gifts of an old-fashioned raconteur, and the vision of an American original.

The stories and the writing is really good however each story and a little unfinished. I wish there was just one more step that she took, but maybe that was the intention.
I don't read a lot of short stories, not sure why, but I really enjoyed this collection. These stories left me waiting for more which is a good thing, and made me think about them after finishing them, also a good thing.
I just love the way this author writes. I relate to all of her stories and characters in some way. Iβm sure itβs not everyoneβs cup of tea but it so hits the spot for me. Such great reads for women in their 30s and up.The one I always go back to is βVolunteers are Shining Starsβ. The main characterβs reaction to her fellow volunteer is fascinating to me.
I liked her other books and this one does not disappoint! Especially like her political insights interspersed in the narrative. Delightful. Honest.
In this series of ten short stories, Curtis Sittenfeld manhandles the human condition. Everyone in these tales is deliciously human β flawed and frightened, insecure and presumptuous, difficult and searching. Itβs a fantastic and honest look at what itβs like to be a person in the world, without apology. In βThe World Has Many Butterflies,β Julie and Graham, married (to others), and friends for nearly a decade embark on a game called You Think It, Iβll Say It every time they find themselves at a gathering. One will share unfiltered, and generally skewering thoughts on a fellow attendee or situation (usually Julie) and the other knowingly agrees. It is also during this time that Julie imagines that sheβs falling in love with Graham β to upsetting results.βA Prairie Wifeβ is a surprising story of a suburban wife and mother obsessed with an online personality, someone sheβd known briefly one summer as counselors at the same camp. Kristen longs to see this womanβs downfall, fantasizing that she will be the one to bring her to her knees only to realize sheβs the only one obsessing about it.And, in perhaps my favorite, βDo-Overβ is about a reunion after sixteen years of two prep school classmates. Sylvia contacts Clay seemingly out of the blue, asking to meet up when sheβs in town. He agrees, assuming incorrectly that itβll be a lot of βwhat have you been up toβ when itβs a lot more Sylviaβs brutal commentary of both their young adult and current lives. Clay is flummoxed by her angry honestly, as was I. Never before has a conversation between two fictional characters made me more wonderfully uncomfortable. If you loved Romantic Comedy, you wonβt be disappointed by this collection that explores, gender, sexuality, relationships, and class. Fantastic.
