Making the yuletide gay
JT Cox never quite fit into Hart's Landing. Playing on the boys' hockey team and coming out young didn't help. Now, thanks to an Olympic gold medal, JT's name is on a sign greeting visitors to her hometown. Her family of artists and creatives still treat her as an odd duck, but elsewhere there's a warm welcome. Especially from her best friend's older sister, newly divorced Ali Porter.
Single for the first time since high school, Ali is ready to take the reins of her own life. She's never had the chance to date another woman, and JT is an irresistible force of nature. When they team up for the town's holiday contest, cocoa tasting and gingerbread decorating give way to snow-melting chemistry.
If teenage JT thought Ali was the prettiest girl on the planet, adult JT is completely smitten. But JT can't see herself living in Hart's Landing again and Ali can't imagine leaving her job and her newly purchased home. And with Ali's mom trying to plot a reconciliation with her ex, this holiday season might be bittersweet...or the start of something magical.

This is like reading in technicolor! Every scene unfolds as if you could see it in front of you: small-town New Hampshire in winter; families gathering for the holidays; a packed ice rink excited to welcome their hero home. Such wonderful, heartfelt writing and well-formed characters who truly develop as the book progresses. There’s tension, but characters handle it believably and responsibly: readers aren’t smacking our foreheads. Thank you to the author for this gift of a novel.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 StarsI’ll be honest I went into this one expecting something a little different, and that’s entirely on me for not reading the blurb. I absolutely judged a book by its cover! Even so, I ended up pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.This isn’t my typical read, but the story still won me over with its cozy holiday atmosphere, charming small-town setting, and the sweet chemistry between the leads. The romance felt warm and genuine, and the festive competitions and seasonal details added a fun, comforting vibe that made it easy to get swept up in the story. While it wasn’t exactly the type of book I thought I was picking up, it still delivered an enjoyable, feel-good read. If you’re in the mood for a holiday romance with heart, this one is definitely worth a look.

I think the characters from book 1 are in the end of this book? Nothing extreme.Basic plot:JT is home for the holidays, and seeing her best friend’s older sister in a whole new light now that she’s divorced.Give this a try if you want:- contemporary romance- small town in New Hampshire – Hart’s Landing- F/F love- best friend’s sibling- divorced heroine- holiday romance- hockey Olympian / teacher pairing- teaming up for a holiday competition – including contests for making hot cocoa, decorating a gingerbread house, sled races- JT has a sweet tooth- medium steam – 3ish full scenesAges:- Ali is 28, I think JT might be a touch younger? My thoughts:Overall this is a really cute, heartwarming sapphic holiday romance. It’s got a small town, friendly holiday competition, and 2 fun heroines both dealing with some family conflict.JT and Ali came together really easy and were able to bond together against their hurt and issues with their parents, and Ali’s ex. Lots of sweet holiday scenes and vibes – I enjoyed the holiday competition a lot and think it provided some great scenes between the hot cocoa competition and the crazy sled racing…The family issues and the issues with Ali’s ex did bother me throughout the book. They just didn’t feel...I don’t know….real enough? Heavy enough? For it to be happening the whole book. An ex that acts like he still wants you, though you were married for 10 years and now he’s dating some else? But what really bothered me was Ali’s mom just incessantly telling her to get back with him. I get at the end we see the projection and vulnerability from her but it was just not enough for me to respect it I guess. And as for JT’s parents – they were sweet but really disappointing. My heart kind of broke for JT and their excuses for not being as supportive. It was just...these issues just left me feeling rather annoyed. So overall this was a bit too low angst between the mains for me, and the intimacy too easy when I wanted more tension. But it has a lot of cuteness in it.
Yours for the Season by Kate Cochrane is a cozy sapphic small-town romance that blends holiday charm, family tension, and a fun competition into one heartwarming listen.I loved the chemistry between JT and Ali—their connection felt natural, full of sweet and flirty moments without unnecessary relationship drama. The family pressure and expectations added emotional weight and realistic conflict, making their growth feel genuine. The story struck a great balance between festive fun and deeper moments. The holiday setting enhanced the plot rather than overpowering it, and I appreciated how the competition became a way for both characters to open up and evolve. The audiobook narration was fantastic—engaging, well-paced, and easy to follow. The narrator did a wonderful job differentiating the characters and keeping the energy consistent throughout. If you’re looking for a feel-good sapphic holiday romance with humor, heart, and just the right amount of spice, this one’s a perfect cozy listen.Read if you like:🎄 Small-town holiday romances🏒 Hockey stars in their hometown💖 Best friend’s sister trope✨ Sapphic romance🎁 Holiday competitionsThank you to Harlequin Audio and NetGalley for providing me an early audiobook copy. Yours for the Season by Kate Cochran is one of those books that sneaks up on you—in the best way. I went in expecting a cute holiday romance, and while it definitely delivers all the cozy, festive vibes (snowy nights, warm drinks, emotional confessions), it also surprised me with how real it felt. The characters aren’t picture-perfect; they’re messy, hesitant, and human. Cochran does an amazing job making you root for them, not just as a couple, but as people trying to figure out what they actually want out of life. There’s humor, heartache, and just enough holiday magic to make it feel special without turning cheesy. It’s the kind of story that feels like curling up with a blanket after a long day—comforting but with depth. If you love small-town settings, emotional honesty, and a slow-burn kind of romance, this one’s worth picking up.
